Harry's HWK

Narrative structure consist of two things which is the content of a story and the form used to tell the story. Two common ways to describe these two parts of narrative structure are the story and the plot. Story refers to the raw materials of dramatic action as they might be described in chronological order.

Deadpool

Deadpool is an ordinary man until he begins to die of cancer. To save himself he volunteers for a medical experiment in which the villain, Ajax, genetically mutates him and removes his heart while simultaneously scarring his face in an irreparable way for life however he is cured and becomes immortal. His wife is taken away by the villain who he works to get revenge on and is helped by the bartender (who is his friend along the way).

Deadpool is one of the most eccentric and over-the-top characters in the Marvel universe. With his superhuman healing powers and his comical attitude, it’s easy to see why the "Merc with a Mouth" has gained such an iconic status among fans. In time for his new cinematic reboot, we’ve compiled all the essential details you need to know about Deadpool’s narrative history from the comic

Todorov’s narrative theory

The 8 are:
  1. The villain (Francis)
  2. The hero (Deadpool)
  3. The donor
  4. The helper who aids the hero (Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead)
  5. The “princess” the reward for the hero and object of the villains scheme (Deadpool’s girlfriend)
  6. Her father
  7. The dispatcher who sends the hero on his way
  8. The false hero (Could also be Deadpool due to his actions, mass murdering etc.)
The final theory I’ll be covering is Todorov’s Equilibrium, a Bulgarian philosopher who created the simple five step narrative.
1. A state of equilibrium- all is well Wade Wilson, Deadpool, meets a girl and falls in love.
2. A disruption of that that order by an event- finds out he has cancer and doesn’t have long left with his girlfriend.
3. A recognition that disorder has occurred- Wade Wilson agrees to under go a medical experiment to remove the cancer however he is tortured, disfigured and transformed into Deadpool.
4. An attempt to repair the damage or disorder- Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life
5. A return or restoration of new equilibrium- although Deadpool doesn’t get his old life and look back he kills the evil scientist and finally meets his old girlfriend after years of avoiding her due to the him being ashamed of how he looked after being disfigured, tortured and transformed into Deadpool.
